Tips for the Month:

  • If you see wasps around the hive, reduce entrances to 2-3 cm so the hive is easier for the bees to defend, but as it is so hot make sure there is sufficient ventillation by leaving the inspection board out and the feed hole on the crown board open.

  • Carry out a disease inspection on your colonies by shaking bees from the frames and carefully inspecting both sides of each frame. If you are concerned by anything you see, ask a more experienced beekeeper to come and have a look, or contact the bee inspector, David Bonner, for advice.
