Tips for the Month:

Keep a check on stores by hefting, or if it is warm enough, a quick check in the brood box.  If the weather turns wet or cold for any extended period your bees may need feeding.  Remember that at least 2 full frames of stores will last a week if bees cannot leave the hive.

Tips for the Month:
  • If you plan to use Oxalic acid (not all beekeepers do) make sure you use the only currently approved treatment - Api-Bioxal.  Also as this treatment affects brood, only use it after a prolonged cold period when the queen stops laying, and only use it on a strong colony or you may lose your bees after this treatment. Of course also observe the safety instructions on the pack as this is a toxic substance.
